Once you have passed your Surf Lifeguard Award you will join a patrol team and be rostered for duty. As a patrolling lifeguard, Surf lifesaving NZ have a number of opportunities in many areas for you to increase your skills and knowledge, with a variety of courses available to achieve this.
At Omaha Beach SLSC we endeavour to offer as many of these opportunities to our active lifeguards as possible and will communicate course dates and pre-requisites through our internal patrol communication network.
Other opportunities to up-skill are offered directly through Surf lifesaving NZ as online learning modules. There is something for everyone.
Some examples of what Omaha Beach regularly offer;
- Surf First Aid courses.
- First Aid refresher courses.
- Board Rescue Module.
- IRB Crew-person award.
- IRB Driver Award

Lifeguards may prefer to follow a specific interest pathway, improving their skills in one area.
This could be for example, in First Aid, Power-craft or a leadership pathway. There are multiple courses to cater for this and lifeguards are encouraged to talk to a Club Instructor or their Patrol Captain to find out more about these pathways.
