First Aid

As a Surf Lifeguard there are opportunities for you to increase your knowledge and skills in First Aid. We are able to offer two First Aid Courses at Omaha with content specifically developed by Surf Life Saving NZ to support Surf Lifeguards in the patrol environment.

We offer our courses mostly over the winter months.

Surf First Aid

Unit standards: 6401, 6402, 6400
Omaha Pre-requisites: Current member of Omaha Beach, Current SLSNZ member, 14 years of age or older.
Duration: Two days

Assessment: Assessment occurs in accordance to NZQA requirements. Scenario assessments are included.                                             Award currency: 24 months.

To get the most benefit from a Surf First Aid course we highly recommend first completing a full season of patrol to consolidate your skills as a Surf Lifeguard.

* Note- Surf First Aid is not a standard Workplace First Aid course. It can be cross credited though, if you complete the specific Surf modules not covered in Workplace First Aid with a Surf First Aid assessor.

Advanced First Aid

Omaha Pre-requisites- Current member of Omaha Beach, Current SLSNZ member, 18 years+. holds current ‘Surf First Aid’.                  Unit standards: 29321
Duration: 3+ days

To attend an Advanced First Aid Course you will need the Club Captains approval.

To get the most benefit of the Advanced First Aid Course course we highly recommend lifeguards have had 3 seasons of patrol experience and are regular patrolling members.
